Michael J. Shiffer serves as the Senior Vice President of Regional Planning at the State of New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority since September 2020. Previously, Michael held the position of Vice President for Planning at Metro-North Railroad from July 2013 to September 2020 and served as Executive Vice President for Planning & Policy at TransLink from May 2009 to April 2012. Michael's academic career includes being an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago from January 2001 to November 2009, and Michael was Vice President of Planning & Development at the Chicago Transit Authority from October 2001 to October 2007. Earlier in career, Michael was a Principal Research Scientist and Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from January 1992 to December 2000, and Michael began in the field as a Guide Lecturer at the Museum of Science and Industry from 1979 to 1986. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Regional Planning and a Master’s in Urban Planning from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from DePaul University.
