Jimmy Lawlor is an experienced lighting designer currently serving as the Resident Assistant Lighting Designer at the Metropolitan Opera since April 2022. Lawlor has a robust background in lighting design, previously leading a team at Lawlor Design since March 2011 and consulting independently for Luce Group in late 2013. With academic experience as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at New York University from 2008 to 2011, Lawlor has taught both actors and designers about lighting techniques. Early career roles include positions at Barbizon Lighting Company, where various administrative and technical responsibilities were managed, and as a Lighting Fellow at Arena Stage, assisting prominent designers. Lawlor holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Design for Stage and Film from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Theatre from James Madison University.
