Mark Shanks is an accomplished Marine Engineering Research Scientist at Metron, Inc., since June 2022, where efforts focus on advancing maritime technology, including vessel and propulsion design. Prior to this, Mark served as Technical Manager for the DARPA NOMARS Program at Serco from October 2020 to June 2022, working on improving maritime vessels and systems while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Mark's extensive experience also includes a lengthy tenure as Lead Marine Engineer in Ship Design at Serco, Inc. (formerly Alion Science & Technology and JJMA) from November 2003 to October 2020, and as a Marine Engineer at Anteon. Mark began a career in the maritime field as a Merchant Mariner at MEBA from June 2001 to March 2003. Mark holds a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy and a Master's degree in Computer Science with a focus on Data Science from Towson University.
