Civil Rights And Inclusion Director at Metro Transit Omaha

Alicia Johnson, PhD has extensive experience in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in various roles throughout their career. Alicia currently serves as the Civil Rights and Inclusion Director at Metro Transit Omaha, where they oversee initiatives related to diversity and inclusion, Title VI compliance, and EEO programs. Previously, they worked as the Interim University Diversity Officer at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, where they supported university leadership in preparing for a permanent UDO position. Alicia also served as the Women's Center Director and Women's and Gender Studies Lecturer at the same institution. Prior to that, Alicia held various roles at the University of Tennessee, including a Graduate Teaching Associate and Social Media and Impact Manager. Alicia also worked as a Volunteer Graduate Assistant at the Center for Sport, Peace, and Society. Alicia's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion extends beyond academia, as evidenced by their involvement with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, where they served as an Executive Board Student Representative and Student Regional Representative. Alicia also gained experience in academic coaching and wellness programming through their roles at AmeriCorps and the YMCA. Alicia holds a PhD in Recreation and Sport Management.

Alicia Johnson, PhD, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Sport Studies: Socio-cultural Studies from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, from 2012 to 2016. Prior to that, they earned a Master of Science (M.S.) in Athletic Counseling from Springfield College from 2010 to 2012. Alicia'seducation journey started with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Exercise Science from Minnesota State University, Mankato, which they completed from 2006 to 2010. In addition to their academic qualifications, Alicia has acquired multiple certifications, such as Advanced Title VI and Public Transit, Project Management for Transit Professionals, Overview of Title VI and Public Transit, Understanding ADA, Introduction to Transit Service Planning, Public Involvement in Transportation Decision-Making, and Inclusive Leadership.
