Executive Director/distinguished Scientist, Dengue Vaccine PDT Lead, Vaccines Clinical Research at Merck

Germán Áñez, MD, FIDSA, currently serves as the Executive Director and Distinguished Scientist at Merck, leading the Dengue Vaccine Product Development Team since March 2023. Prior experience includes roles as Executive Director and Senior Director of Clinical Development for Coronavirus vaccines at NOVAVAX INC from September 2020 to March 2023, and Director of Global Clinical Sciences at Sanofi Pasteur from April 2015 to September 2020, where responsibilities included overseeing global vaccine clinical trials and regulatory submissions. Germán Áñez also worked as a Staff Fellow at the FDA, focusing on regulatory reviews for diagnostics related to infectious agents, and participated in post-doctoral research on monoclonal antibodies at the NIH. Earlier career includes serving as an attending physician, as well as roles in clinical research and medical practice in various healthcare settings. Germán Áñez earned an MD in Microbiology and Immunology from Universidad del Zulia.
