Matthew Mittelsteadt is a Research Fellow at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, where involvement focuses on policies balancing AI innovation with progressive ideals. Previously, Matthew served as an AI Policy Research Fellow and Guest Lecturer at the Syracuse University Institute for Security Policy and Law, emphasizing the implications of AI on national security law and strategy, particularly in the areas of AI arms control and verification. Earlier roles include research assistance at the Campbell Public Affairs Institute, where Matthew was instrumental in establishing the Autonomous Systems Policy Institute, and project management at Epic, where responsibilities included developing medical software. Matthew holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College, a Master of Cybersecurity from New York University, and a Masters of Public Administration from Syracuse University's Maxwell School, along with an Executive Certificate in Counter-Terrorism Studies from Reichman University.
