Joel Clark is a named Senior Partner in MKCI’s Florham Park, NJ office, and has been with the firm since 1996. He represents major corporate and industrial clients, as well as small “mom and pop” businesses involved in product liability, toxic tort, and environmental litigation. Joel has also defended clients in matters involving Employee Retirement Security Act (ERISA) related to eligibility for ERISA medical benefits, out of network billing disputes and medical provider insurance fraud. Joel provides a first class defense for his clients on both a regional and national basis, as he serves as National Coordinating Counsel for both talc and asbestos litigants and has traveled all over the country defending their interests.
In 2014, Joel was elected by his peers to New Jersey’s Asbestos Advisory Committee (AAC). The AAC is a committee of plaintiffs’ and defense counsel active in New Jersey asbestos and talc litigation, which meets regularly with New Jersey’s State Court judge overseeing New Jersey’s asbestos docket; the AAC provides a conduit for direct discussion between the Court and the Asbestos Bar on issues affecting asbestos and talc litigation in New Jersey.
A skilled and accomplished negotiator and client advocate, Joel is a familiar presence in the Middlesex County Courthouse for asbestos and talc defendants in front of both the Special Master and the assigned Judges.
In addition to his litigation experience, Joel is also a member of MKCI’s Management Committee.
Joel has lectured extensively and moderated panels on topics pertaining to asbestos and talc litigation in various jurisdictions for firm clients and national at CLE seminars. He has been instrumental in the organization and presentation of the annual “Harris-Martin New Jersey Asbestos Seminar” and serves as a co-chair of this event.
On a personal basis, Joel’s hobbies include skiing, spending time with his family, and following Notre Dame athletic teams.
Joel obtained his Juris Doctor degree from Western New England School of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from the University of Notre Dame, where he was a four time monogram winner and two time captain of Notre Dame’s nationally ranked fencing team. He is a current member of the Notre Dame monogram club.
