Dean Fischer has a diverse work experience. Dean currently works as the Renewable Energy Market Sector Lead, ALS, PSurv, and Project Manager at McElhanney, where they provide surveying and engineering support for renewable energy projects across Canada. Dean also supports the municipal, oil & gas, and midstream sectors. In addition to their role at McElhanney, they are the owner of Kona Ice of Calgary.
Prior to these positions, Dean Fischer owned their own company called Fischer Surveys, specializing in legal and construction surveying for renewable energy projects. Dean also provided municipal surveying, subdivisions, real property reports, and RPAS (drone) surveying services. During the winter months, they worked as a contractor for Core Geomatics and Absolute Surveys.
Before starting their own company, Dean Fischer was the Branch Manager, Partner, and ALS at Benchmark Geomatics Inc., where they managed legal and construction surveying projects primarily in municipal surveying, subdivisions, and real property reports. Dean held this position from September 2017 to August 2019.
Earlier in their career, Dean Fischer worked at WSP in Canada, where they started as a Project Manager and Field Representative. Dean completed their articles at FOCUS Corporation, which was later purchased by WSP in 2015. Dean gained experience in legal, construction, and engineering surveys, as well as remote sensing in the municipal and oil & gas sectors. Dean also took on additional responsibilities of recruiting, training, and developing new field staff from 2012 to 2017.
Dean Fischer has also had experience in the ski resort industry as an owner of Hidden Valley Ski Resort. Their responsibilities included operations, marketing, snow school, snowmaking, grooming, and customer service. Dean was a partner in the resort from January 1996 to December 2015.
Before their involvement in the ski resort industry, Dean Fischer worked as the Director of Operations at Traxx Coachlines/Tot-em Transportation. Dean oversaw operations for four offices and managed one of the largest high-end motor coach fleets in western Canada. Additionally, they handled school bus operations in Medicine Hat. Dean held this position from July 1996 to August 2006 before deciding to pursue further education and a new career path.
Dean Fischer obtained a Diploma in Geomatics Engineering Technology from Lethbridge College in 2008. Dean then went on to earn a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Geomatics Engineering from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2012. In terms of additional certifications, Dean Fischer obtained a Unmanned Aircraft System small complex (urban) Pilot Certification (RPAS Pilot) from Bow Valley College in 2019. Dean also holds the title of Commisioned Alberta Land Surveyor, which was granted by The Alberta Land Surveyors' Association in 2017. Additionally, Dean Fischer has an Alberta 'S' endorsement Instructor certification from the Alberta Student Transportation Advisory Council in 2006 and a CASI Level 3 Snowboard Instructor/evaluator certification from the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors in 1996.
