Margarita Houston has extensive work experience as a Water Resources Engineer. Margarita started their career at Westhoff Engineering Resources Ltd in 1999 and worked there until 2003. In 2004, they worked at A & A Environmental and then moved to AMEC, where they stayed until 2015. Margarita then joined Urban Systems Ltd. in 2016 and worked there for a year. Currently, since 2017, they are employed at Matrix Solutions Inc. as a Senior Water Resources Engineer.

Margarita Houston attended Western Canada High School from 1990 to 1993, where they obtained an Honours Biligual High School Diploma. Margarita then pursued higher education at Western University from 1993 to 1998, earning a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in the field of Biochemical/Environmental.
