Jonathan Hsu has worked in the field of immunology since 2008. Jonathan began their career as a Research Associate II at Roche, where they explored the mechanism of action studies of small molecule compounds for the treatment of Rheumatoid Arthritis and the Biology at specific targets in human B cell and human T cells. Jonathan also routinely performed the human whole blood and lymphoblast screening assays to support various small molecule projects and elucidate SAR assessments. In 2012, they joined Eli Lilly and Company as an Associate Consultant Biologist, where they conducted exploratory research and validated cell specific signaling events to support PD marker discovery and patient tailoring for autoimmune diseases. Jonathan also performed Taqman Gene expression analysis of blood and homogenized tissues from animal model studies, followed with protein studies including cytokine/chemokine and cellular staining analysis to establish MoA and Discover biomarkers. In 2013, they moved to EMD Serono, Inc. as a Scientist I and served as the project champion of a biologic drug development project targeting a family of membrane proteins. Jonathan also established Flow-based phagocytosis for biologics screening and characterization. In 2016, they joined FORMA Therapeutics, Inc. as a Scientist, where they designed and performed target validation experiments to support immune-oncology projects and established three cell-based assays to profile lead compounds and evaluate T-cell activity. In 2017, Jonathan joined Marengo Therapeutics as a Principal Scientist - Immunology Lead, and later became the Principal Scientist, Head of Immunology (Interim). Jonathan was also the project leader for one of Elstar's modalities, and led bi-/multi-specific functional immune T cells engager projects. Jonathan currently leads a team of 3 (up to 5) and they establish and perform various in vitro cell-based assays for POC and validation. Theirteam also focuses on exploring biology and understanding the MOA of their molecules to differentiate to competition.
Jonathan Hsu obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2005. Subsequently, they earned a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology from San Jose State University in 2008.
