Brian Riley has extensive work experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on optomechanical systems and medical device development. Brian has held various roles in different companies, starting with AstroTerra Corp. where they worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, developing free-space optical communication technologies. Brian then moved on to InPhase Technologies as an Optomechanical Staff Engineer, where they led the optomechanical system architecture of a commercial Holographic Data Storage system. Brian then joined Cutera as a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, working on the design and development of a noninvasive medical device. Brian later joined OptiMedica as a Senior Engineer, where they played a key role in productizing a femtosecond laser-based surgical system. After that, Brian worked at AOsense as a Principal Engineer, supporting research teams in the development of gravity and inertial sensors. Brian then joined Outset Medical, Inc. as a Principal Product Development Engineer, working on the development of a new generation dialysis machine. Brian also worked at LeukoDx, Inc. as a Principal Development Engineer, where they developed initial designs for the second generation Accellix platform. Most recently, they are employed at Mantle Inc. as a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer. Additionally, throughout their career, Brian has gained experience in 3D printing, concept design, thermal and structural analysis, and fluidic system design.
Brian Riley earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech, where they studied from 1992 to 1996.
