Richard Hawkins has a diverse work experience in the field of sports performance and management. Richard started their career at The Football Association in 1997 as Deputy Head of Exercise Science, where they worked until 2005. Richard then moved to West Bromwich Albion Football Club, where they served as Head of Fitness and Conditioning from 2005 to 2007. In 2007, they joined Sheffield United Football Club as Head of Fitness and Conditioning for a short period. Later, in 2008, Hawkins joined Manchester United and held various roles, including Human Performance Manager, Head of Athletic Training Services, Head of Physical Performance, and currently Director of Football Insights and Innovation. Their tenure at Manchester United is still ongoing.
Richard Hawkins attended Bahrain School from 1984 to 1988 where they completed their GCSE's. After that, from 1988 to 1990, they pursued their A Levels in Maths, Biology, and Chemistry at Oswestry School. Subsequently, they enrolled at Loughborough University for their Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Science, which they completed from 1990 to 1993. Continuing their education at the same university, Richard obtained a Master of Science degree in Sports Science from 1993 to 1994. Richard further pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Injuries in Professional Football and Identification of Aetiological Factors from 1994 to 1997 at Loughborough University. Later, in 2018, Richard Hawkins completed a Master's Degree in Sports Directorship at The University of Salford, which they finished in 2020.
