Roel Spätjens has extensive experience as a Senior Research Technician at Maastricht University's Department of Cardiology since August 1996, specializing in the patch clamp technique to study ionic currents in various cell types, including native cells and induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Prior to this role, Roel worked as a volunteer lab technician at the Department of Physiology and interned at the Department of Neuropsychology, Neuropsychiatry & Psychobiology, focusing on the NO-cGMP signal transduction system. Roel holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Zuyd Hogeschool, completed in 1996, and an Atheneum degree in the Beta stream from Serviam, earned in 1992.
