Mary Joy has a diverse work experience in the healthcare and senior living industry. Mary has worked as an MDT Program Manager and Mental Health Specialist at Lutheran Community Services Northwest, where they provided outpatient therapy to older and vulnerable adult clients. Prior to that, they worked as a Crisis Respite Counselor at Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare.

Mary also has extensive experience in senior housing. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and French from the University of Colorado Boulder, where they studied from 1979 to 1981. Mary Joy also holds additional certifications, including being a QMHP from MACHBO, which they obtained in April 2019, and being a Licensed HeartMath Provider from the HeartMath Institute, which they obtained in April 2008.
