Shane van Heerden is a seasoned data scientist with extensive experience in machine learning and data analysis, currently serving as a Senior Data Scientist at Luno since September 2021, where Shane led the development of real-time customer Anti-Money Laundering risk scores. Prior to Luno, Shane held positions as a Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer, focusing on customer lifecycle tracking and advanced NLP solutions for recruitment, respectively. Shane's earlier experience includes a Data Science internship at DataProphet and roles in Operations Research, including chairing the Western Cape Chapter of ORSSA. Shane holds a PhD in Machine Learning and a BEng in Industrial Engineering from Stellenbosch University, along with additional educational qualifications in Purchasing Logistics from Jönköping University.
