Jaco du Plessis has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Jaco began their career as a Systems Analyst and Developer at Information Systems Associates, where they worked closely with clients to analyze their needs and develop tailored software solutions. Jaco then joined Comau South Africa Body Systems as an IT Manager, responsible for managing ICT resources and aligning them strategically. During their tenure, they also served as a Systems Analyst and Development Team Leader, overseeing the analysis, design, and development of bespoke software.
In 2006, Jaco joined Response Group Trendline as a Senior Software Engineer, specializing in developing customized management reports for automotive OEMs. Jaco played a crucial role in the redevelopment of the Grahamstown Building Society's banking system, focusing on mortgage bond, re-advance, loan application modules, and account management.
In 2011, Jaco joined Lumotech (Pty) Ltd, initially as an IT Manager and later progressed to Senior Manager Logistics & IT, General Manager Manufacturing & IT, and eventually Director of Manufacturing & IT. Jaco oversaw various aspects of the company's operations, including manufacturing, production, inventory control, recruitment, and development of manufacturing personnel. Additionally, they were responsible for servers, networking infrastructure, software, and regulatory compliance.

Jaco du Plessis has a diverse education background. Jaco started their education at Gill College from 1984 to 1995, where they completed their high school education. In 1997, they joined Nelson Mandela University and pursued a National Diploma in Information Technology, which they completed in 1999. Six years later, in 2006, Jaco attended the University of South Africa for a short period to study Applied Management (Software) in the Information Technology environment. Lastly, they pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from Nelson Mandela University, specializing in Business Administration, Management, and Operations, which they completed in 2013.
