With a distinguished, international career as a cardiac surgeon and Medical Director of NHS England, Sir Bruce Keogh is currently Chair of the Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. Sir Bruce was first appointed as Medical Director of the NHS in the Department of Health in 2007 and then National Medical Director of NHS England following its creation in 2013. As such, he has been close to the development and implementation of NHS policy over the last decade and specifically responsible for promoting quality, clinical leadership and innovation across the Health Service. Knighted for services to medicine in 2003, he was ranked as the most influential clinician in the NHS by the Health Service Journal and named as one of Britain's 500 most influential people in the Sunday Times.
