Karl F. Schmitt, Jr. has extensive experience in sports management and communications, highlighting a career that spans several decades. Since July 2009, Karl has been retired after a significant tenure with the Louisville Sports Commission, a not-for-profit dedicated to enhancing Louisville's image as a sports destination. Prior to retirement, Karl served as Executive Director for the Cup Experience during the 2008 Ryder Cup, and held prominent roles at Churchill Downs Incorporated from 1987 to 2006, including Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications. Karl began as the Sports Information Director at the University of Miami from 1980 to 1987 and started a career in education and coaching at Bishop David High School from 1976 to 1979. Educational credentials include a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Secondary Education, and Geography from Morehead State University.
