Serene Yew has a diverse work experience spanning various companies and roles. Serene started their career at CGI as a Software Developer, where they worked on the PAS project and gained expertise in Java, Ruby, Toplink, SQL, Watir, Ant, and JasperAssistant. After two years at CGI, they joined ThoughtWorks as a Software Developer, where they played a key role in customer-facing programs for Shaw, including the replacement for MyShaw and Shaw's Online Customer Care site. Serene then moved on to Robots and Pencils as a Senior Software Consultant, specializing in full-stack Ruby on Rails development with a focus on Test Driven Development and Continuous Integration practices. In 2018, Serene joined Quantifi as the Director of Technology, a position they held until 2019. Currently, they are working as the Co-Founder of Local Shops, a role they have held since 2020. Prior to their current position, Serene served as the Chief Executive Officer of Pixeltree Inc from 2011 onwards.

Serene Yew pursued their undergraduate education from 2003 to 2006 at the University of Calgary. During this time, they obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
