Ryan Um has worked in various roles in the medical device industry since 2010. In 2010, they began their career as an Assembler at Vascular Solutions, now part of Teleflex. In 2016, they were promoted to Documentation Coordinator at the same company. In 2017, they moved to Creganna Medical as an R&D Engineer and R&D Technician. In 2019, they joined Switchback Medical as a Sr. Product Development Engineer and Product Development Engineer II. In 2021, they moved to Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. as a Sr. Product Development Engineer. Finally, in 2022, they became the Engineering Manager and key employee at LightningCath, partnering with the founders of Switchback Medical to develop a new company focused on complex catheter solutions. Ryan also became the General Manager at Pattaya Thai Restaurant, where they managed marketing, business development, customer interface, and staff training.
Ryan Um's education history includes a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University from 2014 to 2016, and prior to that they were a Transfer Student in Mechanical Engineering at Normandale Community College from 2011 to 2013. In addition, they have obtained several certifications from LinkedIn, including Design Thinking: Understanding the Process (September 2021), Engineering Drawings for Manufacturing (September 2021), Introduction to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (September 2021), Product Management: Building a Product Roadmap (September 2021), Rapid Prototyping for Product Design (September 2021), Critical Thinking for Better Judgment and Decision-Making (August 2021), Excel: Statistical Process Control (August 2021), Project Management Foundations (August 2021), and SOLIDWORKS: Advanced Tools (August 2021). Ryan also has a Food Protection Manager Certification from StateFoodSafety, obtained in October 2022.
