Seth Tisue

Senior Software Engineer at Lightbend

Seth Tisue has been working in the software engineering industry since 1991. Seth began their career as a Research Assistant, System Administrator, and Tutor at the University of Chicago, where they wrote research code in Common Lisp and administered a cluster of NeXT work stations. In 1993, they became a Software Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory.

In 1995, Tisue returned to the University of Chicago as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant. Seth developed a multimedia authoring tool written in Macintosh Common Lisp, and built a software assistant for auto body designers at Ford Motor Company.

In 2009, Tisue began volunteering as a co-organizer for the Boston Area Scala Enthusiasts and Northeast Scala Symposium. Seth also co-hosted the Scalawags podcast monthly and served on the Scala Workshop 2012 and Scala Days 2014 program committees.

In 2014, Tisue began working at McGraw-Hill Education's digital R&D lab in Boston as a Computer Scientist. Seth worked on a proprietary cross-platform functional language used for building educational digital media.

In 2015, Tisue joined Lightbend, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer on the Scala team, which is at the center of an open source community maintaining the Scala 2 compiler, standard library, and associated build and testing infrastructure. Seth also participated in design and development work on Scala 3.

Seth Tisue obtained a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Chicago between 1989 and 1993. Seth then went on to earn an MS in Computer Science from Northwestern University between 1995 and 1999.
