James Roper has over 18 years of professional experience in software engineering and architecture. James began their career in 2002 with Tip Top Bakeries as a Merchendiser. From 2005 to 2008, they worked as a Software Engineer at CSC Australia. James then joined Atlassian as a Senior Java Developer in 2008. In 2011, they moved to VZ Netzwerke Ltd as a Senior Developer. In 2012, they worked as a Senior Troublemaker at devbliss GmbH and as a Lead Developer and Software Engineer at Typesafe (now Lightbend). Since 2015, they have been employed at Lightbend, Inc. as a Cloud Architect, Architect in the Office of the CTO, and Lead Developer. In 2018, they joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Committer.

James Roper attended Erindale College from 1999 to 2000. James then attended The Australian National University from 2001 to 2004, graduating with a Bachelor of Software Engineering.
