Yunshi Zhao

Machine Learning Engineer at Liftoff

Yunshi Zhao has a diverse work experience that spans across various roles and industries. In 2011, they worked as a Team Lead at EarthKAM, where they led a team until 2013. Following this, they worked as an Undergrad Researcher at the Kleissl Solar Resource Assessment and Forecasting Lab from 2012 to 2013. After that, they interned at Boeing from 2013 to 2014. They then worked as a Research Assistant at the Georgia Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2015. In 2016, Yunshi joined Boeing as a Design Engineer and worked in that role until 2018.

In 2018, Yunshi's career path shifted towards data science. They attended a selective 12-week immersive data science program called Metis, where they developed several data science projects using statistical modeling, machine learning, programming, communication, and design.

After completing the program, Yunshi worked as a Data Scientist (Contract) at SmartEar, Inc. for a brief period. They then joined Yummly (A subsidiary of Whirlpool Corporation) as a Data Scientist from 2018 to 2019. During this time, they developed expertise in building a feature extraction framework and a feature store as part of an ML infrastructure improvement effort. They also improved a legacy OCR model, increasing accuracy and saving the company significant costs. Additionally, Yunshi implemented a fraud rule using user phone contact data.

Most recently, Yunshi joined Liftoff Mobile as a Machine Learning Engineer in 2020. The summary of their work experience showcases their diverse skills in machine learning, data science, research, and engineering in various industries.

Yunshi Zhao pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering from 2014 to 2015 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to that, from 2009 to 2013, Yunshi Zhao completed a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering at UC San Diego. In 2017, Yunshi Zhao gained further knowledge by completing the Self-Driving Cars Nanodegree program offered by Udacity.
