Alena Widows

Learning Guide at Learnlife

Alena Widows is currently a Learning Guide at Learnlife. Alena previously worked as an Associate Teacher and Library Manager at ES International School from September 2019 to August 2020. There, they helped prepare and implement inquiry-based and transdisciplinary activities that helped learners explore the world and develop as global citizens.

Before that, Widows worked as a Teachers' Day Guest Presenter at Macmillan from March 2015 to February 2020. In this role, they presented to groups of teachers on a variety of topics related to education and teaching.

Alena Widows has a credential in cross-cultural human services from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Alena also has a CELTA / TESOL from the School for International Training, which qualifies their to teach English as a second or foreign language/ESL language instructor. Additionally, they have a certification from Institut d'Estudis Nord-americans in teaching very young learners (3 to 6 years old). Alena also has a professional educator license from the University of West Florida, which allows their to teach K-6. Finally, they have a bachelor's degree in sociology and anthropology from Guilford College. Alena also has certification from Stanford University in how to learn maths for teachers, certification from Really Great Reading in bringing the science of reading to life in your classroom, certification from the International Baccalaureate in making the PYP happen: implementing agency, and certification from SO ME Academy in social media management.

Alena Widows works with Joel Paz - Learning Guide, Maria Galanopoulos - Learning Guide, and Devin Carberry - Director of Learning Programs. Alena Widows reports to Stephen Harris, Co-Founder & Chief Learning Officer.
