James Newton's work experience includes various roles in different companies. James is currently working as a Resident Physician in the Pediatric Scientist Training Program at UNC Health since June 2022. James is also serving on the Board of Directors for the Blow By Oxygen Foundation since January 2022.

In 2018, James Newton founded LeanMed, LLC and served as an Advisory Board Member. James also worked as a Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Medical Devices Laboratory from June 2018 to May 2019.

From June 2020 to June 2021, James Newton was a Clinical Researcher in the Clinician Scientist Training Program.

James Newton has a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah. James then pursued a Graduate Certificate in Medical Product Innovation from the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering from 2017 to 2021. During this time, they also attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from 2016 to 2022. Continuing their education, James completed a Masters Degree (MS) in Clinical Research from the University of Pittsburgh from 2020 to 2022.
