Jesse Cresswell has a diverse work experience in the field of machine learning and data science. Currently, Jesse serves as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist and Team Lead for Privacy research at Layer 6 AI, which is the machine learning research arm of TD Bank. In this role, Jesse focuses on developing machine learning models that respect individuals' privacy through federated learning and differential privacy. Jesse also conducts research in reinforcement learning and deep generative modeling.
Prior to joining Layer 6 AI, Jesse held a similar role as a Senior Machine Learning Scientist and Team Lead for Risk at TD. In this capacity, Jesse was responsible for building machine learning models in high-risk and highly regulated domains. As a team lead, Jesse managed a team of scientists and engineers, guided project discovery, and collaborated closely with TD businesses at all project stages.
Before transitioning into industry, Jesse conducted research at the University of Toronto as a Vanier Scholar from 2017 to 2019. During this time, Jesse also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant from 2014 to 2019, gaining experience in both research and teaching.
Jesse's industry experience also extends to working as a Data Scientist at Qubitel. In this role, Jesse directly engaged with clients and their data to provide customized business solutions. Projects included developing a machine learning algorithm for personalized product recommendations based on purchasing history and optimizing shipping and routing procedures for a Canadian transport company.
Throughout Jesse's academic journey, they also served as a Junior Fellow at Massey College from 2016 to 2019 and as an Academic Don in Physics and Maths at the University of Toronto - University of Trinity College from 2018 to 2019.
Jesse's early career involved roles as a Supplemental Learning Leader and Teaching Assistant at the University of British Columbia from 2011 to 2014.
Overall, Jesse Cresswell's work experience showcases expertise in machine learning research, team leadership, risk analytics, privacy preservation, and solving business challenges through data-driven approaches.
Jesse Cresswell pursued their education in the field of physics, specializing in theoretical and mathematical physics. From 2010 to 2014, they attended The University of British Columbia, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree (H.B.Sc) in Physics. During their undergraduate studies, in 2013, Jesse briefly participated in an Exchange program at the National University of Singapore, further expanding their knowledge in physics.
Motivated by their interest in the subject, Jesse proceeded with their studies at the University of Toronto. In 2014, they completed a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Physics at this institution. Building upon their foundation, Jesse continued their academic pursuits at the University of Toronto, undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics from 2015 to 2019. Through these educational experiences, Jesse Cresswell has developed a strong background in physics, particularly in the theoretical and mathematical aspects of the field.
