Asela Dassanayake has had a diverse range of roles and experiences throughout their career. Asela started as an Assistant Web Master at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) from an unknown date to 2008. Asela then worked as a Bioinformatics Intern at Plant and Food Research from November 2011 to August 2012. From July 2013 to December 2014, they worked as a Computational Biologist. Asela then transitioned to the role of Computational Biology Scientist from December 2014 to September 2016. From October 2016 to September 2019, they held the position of Senior Scientist Bioinformatics Research. Asela then became the Manager of Scientific Computing at LanzaTech from September 2019 to March 2023. Currently, they are working as the Director of Scientific Computing at LanzaTech, starting from March 2023.
Asela Dassanayake completed their education at multiple institutions. Asela began their academic journey at S.Thomas' College Mount Lavinia in Sri Lanka from 1989 to 2002. Later, they pursued a Bachelor of Information Technology degree at the University of Colombo from 2006 to 2011. Asela then attended Auckland University of Technology from 2011 to 2012, where they earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Science with a focus on Computer Science. Finally, they studied at The University of Auckland from 2012 to 2013 and obtained a Master's degree in Bioinformatics.
