Alexander Herzig is a leading expert in climate change adaptation and mitigation, currently serving as the Research Priority Area Leader for Climate-Smart Landscapes at Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research since April 2009. With extensive experience as a Senior Researcher and Capability Leader in Land Use & Ecosystems, Alexander specializes in landscape modelling, ecosystem services, land-use optimization, and geoinformatics. Prior to this role, academic contributions were made at the Department of Geography, Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, focusing on GIS programming, spatial decision support systems, and teaching various subjects related to geoinformation science. Academic qualifications include a Doctorate in Physical Geography and Geoinformation Sciences from Kiel University, complemented by a Computer Science Certificate and a Diploma from Leibniz Universität Hannover in the same field.
