John Junga

Director Of Operating Practices at Lake State Railway Company

John Junga has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. John began their career as an On Call Firefighter for the Saginaw Township Fire Department in 1998 and later served as an On Call Firefighter for the White Lake Township Fire Department from 2000 to 2002. Concurrently, they worked as a Development Technician at General Motors from 2000 to 2002, specializing in tech support for the development of the Gen III engine for Chevrolet and Pontiac vehicles. John then joined BENTELER Automotive as an Engineering Development professional from 2002 to 2006.

In 2004, John became a Safety Officer and Firefighter for the Mundy Township Fire Department, where they served the community with fire and medical services. During their time there, they also held the role of Safety Officer for six years, overseeing crew and scene safety.

From 2006 to 2012, John worked at CN, starting as a Conductor and later transitioning to the role of Manager, Rules and Operating Practices. In the latter role, they were responsible for ensuring the adherence to operating rules and practices in their assigned territories of Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. John also served as an Officer, Training and Development from 2014 to 2020, focusing on the continuous training of Operating Employees within their designated territories.

John then served as a Local Chairman and General Secretary for the United Transportation Union from 2010 to 2012. As a union representative, they upheld the UTU Contract and advocated for the safety and well-being of their members.

In 2017, John joined the Michigan Mabas Task Force 1 as a Communications Specialist, a role they continue to hold. Most recently, in 2020, they joined Lake State Railway as a Trainmaster, and they currently serve as the Director of Operating Practices as well.

Overall, John Junga has demonstrated a wide range of skills and experience in fields such as firefighting, automotive engineering, transportation, and union representation.

From 1998 to 2000, John Junga attended Delta College, where they obtained an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Automotive Engineering Technology/Technician.
