Afonso Marques is a Doctoral Researcher at Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, pursuing a PhD in Engineering Physics at the University of Coimbra and LIP Coimbra, focusing on gaseous detectors research and development. Afonso's experience includes work as a Research Fellow at CERN, where involvement in micropattern particle detector development occurred, and as an Expert for the Agência de Avaliação e Acreditação Do Ensino Superior. Additional roles include serving on the Scientific Council at the Laboratório de Instrumentação e Física Experimental de Partículas, supervising student research, and acting as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Coimbra. Leadership experience encompasses serving as President of the Portuguese Association of Physics Students, representing students on the Pedagogical Council, and currently holding the position of Vice-President for Finance at Associação Alma de Coimbra.
