Derricka McCray began their work experience in 2016 as a File Assistant at Kelly Services, where they were responsible for reviewing and processing US Passports and ID cards for international travel. In 2017, they worked as an Executive Assistant Support Level I at Dexis Consulting Group. From 2018 onwards, they joined KT CONSULTING, initially as a Facilities Sustainment, Restoration, and Modernization Financial Analyst, and later as an SRM Financial Analyst. In these roles, they conducted reviews of project requests, managed budgets, and maintained relationships between departments. Prior to these positions, they worked at the Army National Guard starting in 2012 as a National Guard Bureau-HRM-I, where their responsibilities included processing payments for incentive programs and handling inquiries from various entities.

Derricka McCray began their education in 2012 when they attended Bowie State University. Derricka pursued a degree in Criminal Justice, with a focus on Forensic Science and Technology. Derricka completed their studies at Bowie State University in 2016.

In 2013, Derricka also attended the United States Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) School. Derricka obtained a degree as a CBRN Specialist, specializing in Science.

After a brief gap in their education, Derricka resumed their studies in 2018 at Prince George's Community College. Derricka pursued an Associate of Science degree in Information Technology, which they successfully completed in 2020.
