Alex Allan has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. In 2008, they worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer at Sony, testing and providing feedback to developers on HDxchange and Ziris applications. From 2009 to 2010, they worked as a Programming Assistant at ISR, where they created displays and Java applets to showcase the potential of the Hydra middleware platform for home automation.
In 2010, Alex pursued a PhD in Data Science at the University of Reading. Their research focused on utilizing non-euclidean spaces to estimate latencies within computer networks more accurately. During their studies, they also completed internships at ISR, continuing to work on creating Android applications and assisting in the development of online learning resources.
After completing their PhD, Alex became the Chief Data Officer at Datamind, a company acquired by Kortical in 2018. At Datamind, they led a team of experts in the application of machine learning and big data to create products that increased sales revenue, reduced costs, and provided training solutions.
In 2016, Alex co-founded Kortical, where they served as the Co-founder and CTO. Kortical developed an automated machine learning platform, powering ambitious AI projects such as optimizing blood supply logistics for the NHS and automating tax decisions for Deloitte with high accuracy. Their technology revolutionized the productionizing process of AI, significantly reducing time, cost, and risk compared to traditional data science approaches.
Additionally, in 2019, Alex joined The Supper Club as a member, possibly seeking networking opportunities and professional development within the business community.
Alex Allan completed a BSc (Hon.) degree in Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Reading from 2006 to 2010. Alex then pursued further education at the same university and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Data Science from 2010 to 2014.
