Olivia Heffernan has a diverse work experience in the fields of journalism, film partnerships, documentary filmmaking, communications, events coordination, and development. Olivia has been self-employed as a Freelance Journalist and Researcher since 2019. Olivia has also served as Director of Film Partnerships for Storyspaces since 2019, a Documentary Filmmaker for Human Pictures since 2019, a Communications Strategist and Researcher for The Justice Lab since 2018, a We are Witnesses Communications and Events Coordinator and Associate Producer for The Marshall Project since 2017, a Global Philanthropy Forum Program Officer for the World Affairs Council of Northern California since 2016, a Publications Intern for the International Center for Transitional Justice since 2015, a Consultant for Alissa Everett Photography and Exposing Hope since 2015, and a Development Intern for Human Rights First since 2014. Olivia was also the Director of Development for GlobeMed from 2013-2014.
Olivia Heffernan began their education in 2011, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in International Politics and Human Rights from Middlebury College in 2014. That same year, they completed a course in International Human Rights at Columbia University. In 2015, they attended the International Center of Photography, studying Photojournalism and Human Rights. Olivia then went on to pursue a Master's degree in International Human Rights Law and Conflict Resolution at Columbia | SIPA, which they completed in 2019.
