Stephen Upton's work experience begins in 2006 as a Marketing Coordinator at YHA Australia. From 2007 to 2010, they served as a Trust Officer at Citi. In 2010, they joined UBS as a Director, holding various roles in Wealth Planning and Product Management until 2013. During this time, they were also the President of the Swiss Touch Association, a national sporting organization. In 2013, Stephen pursued an MBA at the University of Cambridge. Stephen then worked as a Strategic Consultant at NIAB in 2014 and as a Director of Wealth Planning at UBS in Switzerland in 2015. From 2015 to 2019, they served as the Chief Operating Officer of Smartshares at NZX Limited, overseeing operations, compliance, customer service, data analytics, and investment management. In 2018, they became the Chairperson of Touch NZ. Since 2019, Stephen has been working as the Chief Operating Officer at Kernel, a digital wealth solution company.
Stephen Upton's education history includes obtaining various degrees and diplomas. In 1996, they attended Victoria University of Wellington, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing and Management. In 2008, Stephen enrolled in the Society of Trust and Estate Professionals, where they obtained a Diploma in International Trust Management (TEP designation). Continuing their education, in 2013, they attended the University of Cambridge and completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. Simultaneously, they pursued an MBA degree at the Cambridge Judge Business School. Subsequently, in 2015, they studied at The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, earning the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, specializing in Accounting and Business/Management.
