Renee Smith

Vice President, Government Affairs at Karuna Therapeutics

Renee Smith has over 20 years of work experience in the healthcare industry. Renee most recently held the position of Vice President, Government Affairs at Karuna Therapeutics since December 2021. Prior to that, they worked at Sage Therapeutics for four years as the Head of State Government Affairs & Government Payers, where they were responsible for developing and implementing government channel strategies and securing reimbursement for Sage products.

Before joining Sage Therapeutics, Renee served as the Senior Director of National Accounts at Otonomy, Inc for two years. In this role, they led the National Accounts team and managed key account relationships across various payer channels.

At Takeda Pharmaceuticals, Renee worked for three years as a Regional Access Manager, where they handled reimbursement for all Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA products and developed strategies to achieve formulary access.

Prior to Takeda, Renee held the position of National Account Manager - Corporate Accounts at Baxter GACC for three years. Renee was responsible for sales activities related to Independent Delivery Networks and Group Purchasing Organizations.

Renee began their career at Amgen, where they worked for eight years as a Regional Account Manager, focusing on Senior Care in the Midwest.

Throughout their career, Renee has demonstrated leadership skills and has successfully managed teams and built key account relationships. Renee has extensive experience in government affairs, market access strategies, and reimbursement in the healthcare industry.

Renee Smith has obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies & Health Care Administration from The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. Additionally, they have an Associate's Degree in General Science & Nursing Care from Lorain County Community College.
