Katja Hylkilä has had a diverse work experience, starting in 2002 as a Trainee in marketing and customer service at SLP Kustannus Oy. Katja then worked as a Service Manager and Group Manager at Elisa from 2004 to 2008. In 2009, they became a Sales Group Manager at Eniro. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as an HR Coordinator at Opteam. In 2011, they joined Kaleva and held various roles including Product Line Manager, Head of Sales for digital products and services, and Head of Sales until 2018. From 2019 to 2020, they worked as Director of Customer Relations at Kaleva Media and later became Sales Director until 2021. Since 2021, they have served as the Director of Business Development and Customer Experience at the same company. Additionally, they have been a Board Member at Suomen Paikallismediat Oy from 2020 to 2022 and a Committee Member at Oulun Kauppakamari, viestintävaliokunta from 2020 to 2021.

Katja Hylkilä attended Sotkamon lukio, Vuokatti-Ruka urheiluakatemia from 1996 to 2000. Following that, they pursued their degree in Business and Administration at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences (KAMK) from 2000 to 2004.
