John Murray has held a variety of positions in the communications and media industry since 2012. In 2012, they began as a Columnist for The Stanford Daily Newspaper and an Editorial Intern for Portland Monthly. In 2013, they became a Core Team Intern for Mentorzen. From 2014 to 2017, they held roles as a Peer Advisor and Administrative Assistant for Stanford University, and a Digital Communications Intern for Nike. John then joined The University of Texas at Austin in 2017 as an Assistant Instructor and Teaching Assistant. In 2019, they became Self-Employed as a Freelance Writer and Copyeditor, and also held roles as a Brand Director, Editor In Chief, and Content Director for Just Women's Sports. During their time as a Freelance Writer and Copyeditor, they copyedited Dr. Werner Stegmaier's What is Orientation? A Philosophical Investigation (De Gruyter, 2019) and worked with clients such as Nike, Yotpo, Stanford's Poetic Media Lab, Portland Monthly Magazine, and the Hodges Foundation for Philosophical Orientation.
John Murray attended Lake Oswego High School from 2007 to 2011, graduating with a High School Diploma. John then attended Stanford University from 2011 to 2015, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English (Honors). After that, they attended Stanford University again from 2015 to 2016, earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) in English. Lastly, they attended The University of Texas at Austin from 2017 to 2019, earning a Master of Fine Arts - MFA in Creative Writing.
