Nathanial Watson has a diverse work experience across various industries. Nathanial started their career as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where they taught advanced chemistry courses and trained cadets in problem-solving skills. Nathanial then worked as Director of Training Development at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, overseeing the development of combating Weapons of Mass Destruction courses. Nathanial also served in the US Army as a Nuclear and Counterproliferation Officer and a Field Artillery Officer, gaining extensive expertise in strategic and operational-level planning related to nuclear and WMD threats.
After leaving the military, Nathanial pursued a doctoral degree at the University of Washington, focusing on method and technology development in multi-dimensional gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. Nathanial designed and developed a comprehensive three-dimensional gas chromatograph with mass spectrometric detection and applied various chemometric data analysis techniques to the generated data structure.
Following their academic pursuits, Nathanial worked as a Freelance Tutor and Chemometrician, providing tutoring services and consulting on chemometric analysis. Nathanial then joined JP3 Measurement, LLC, where they held roles as a Chemometrician, Chemometrics Manager, and ultimately as Director of Chemometrics. In this role, they managed a cross-functional team and led the development of regression and classification models for over 600 distributed IIoT NIR analyzers.
Nathanial later joined Flotek Industries, Inc. as Director of Chemometrics. Nathanial successfully managed the integration of JP3 into Flotek and supervised the software development of a web-based platform for managing calibration models across the IIoT fleet.
During a sabbatical, Nathanial embarked on a cross-country bike tour and traveled the world.
Nathanial Watson has a diverse education history. Nathanial received their Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Florida between 1995 and 1999. Nathanial later pursued further education and obtained a Master's Degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Washington between 2005 and 2007. Following this, Nathanial went on to attain a PEL Certificate in Weapons of Mass Destruction from the National Defense University from 2011 to 2014. Finally, they completed their education journey by earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Washington between 2014 and 2017.
