David Neller started their work experience in 2006 at PC World as an Expert Technician, where they managed repairs, upgrades, and a team of technicians and customer advisors. David then worked at Plastic Card Solutions Ltd as a Technical Support role in 2009, focusing on expanding the technical department and maintaining an RMA system. In 2010, David joined Janet as part of the Service Desk, providing support and information on fault reporting and management. Finally, they joined Jisc in 2013, initially as a Network Engineer and later becoming the Head of Network Engineering, responsible for configuring, installing, upgrading, and troubleshooting Cisco and Juniper equipment for the Janet Network.

David Neller attended Abingdon and Witney College from 2001 to 2004, where they obtained an AVCE degree in Information Technology. Prior to that, they completed their schooling at Bartholomew from 1996 to 2001, without earning a specific degree or field of study. David also holds various certifications, including (JNCIS-SP) Service Provider Routing and Switching, Specialist from Juniper Networks in 2021, Junos, Associate (JNCIA-Junos) from Juniper Networks in 2015, and CCNA from Cisco in 2013.
