Peeyush Nigam has a diverse work experience in the oil and petrochemical industry. Peeyush started their career as a Senior Engineer at Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. in 1988 and worked there until 1996. Peeyush then joined GAIL (India) Limited as a Chief Manager from 1996 to 2001. After that, they worked as a Senior Process Engineer at Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore (PCS) from 2001 to 2008. In 2008, they became a Vice President at Essar Oil Ltd, where they led and coordinated the expansion project of a complex refinery. In 2012, they joined JG Summit Petrochemical Corporation as the Vice President of Manufacturing, where they headed the Olefins Plant and integrated Polymer plant, ensuring high plant availability and capacity utilization.

Peeyush Nigam completed their Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute in Kanpur, India, from 1980 to 1984. Prior to that, they completed their 12th (Intermediate) education in Maths and Physics from BNSD Intermediate College in Kanpur from 1978 to 1980. Peeyush also attended R K Mission in Kanpur for their high school education from 1973 to 1978. Peeyush has obtained certification in "Removing Noise and Bias from Strategic Decision-Making" from LinkedIn, though the year of completion is not specified.
