Alican Karaer

Data Scientist at Iteris

Alican Karaer has a diverse work experience. Currently, in 2022, they are working as an Associate Data Scientist at Iteris, Inc. Prior to this, they held the role of Adjunct Professor at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering, starting in August 2022.

From 2018 to 2022, Alican worked as a Graduate Research - Teaching Assistant at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. In this role, they led multiple Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) funded projects, coordinated a team for a drone and computer vision experiment, and produced technical reports.

In 2019, Alican served as the President of the FAMU-FSU ITE Student Chapter. Alican organized the FLPRITE Student Leadership Summit and received the 2019 Book Scholarship Award from the ITE Big Bend Chapter.

Before joining FAMU-FSU, Alican was a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of North Florida from 2017 to 2018. There, they conducted research on incident response improvements, traffic simulation modeling, and instructed GIS applications.

Alican also gained experience as an intern at Yap覺 Merkezi, where they worked on the Eurasian Tunnel Construction Project and assisted in the operation and progress reporting of the Tunnel Boring Machine.

Overall, Alican Karaer has gained knowledge and expertise in various fields such as data science, teaching, research, and construction.

Alican Karaer holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Transportation from Florida State University, which they obtained from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (MS) degree in Civil Engineering, also with a focus on Transportation, at the University of North Florida from 2017 to 2018. Alican began their educational journey by earning a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, where they studied from 2011 to 2017. In addition to their academic achievements, Alican Karaer obtained a certification as a Remote Pilot (Drone) from the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2019.
