Steve Sickels

Senior Principal Analyst at ITA International

Steve Sickels has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Steve began their career at SAIC in 1994, where they worked as a Senior Engineer until 1998. After that, they joined Secon, Inc. as a Sr. Engineer, serving as the Demonstration Integration Manager for the Open GIS Consortium's Web Mapping Testbed.

In 2000, Steve joined General Dynamics Mission Systems as a Senior Technical Manager, where they led various research and development projects valued at over $33M. Steve played a pivotal role in developing collaborative analytics capabilities for the Intelligence Community, with a focus on bringing the power of Bayesian inferencing through intuitive visualization.

In 2017, Steve joined Innovative Decisions, Inc. as a Senior Principal Analyst. Steve conceptualized and developed an innovative Bayesian network application that displayed the "weight of evidence" and supported conclusions. During their time with Innovative Decisions, Inc., Steve's company was acquired by ITA International in 2020, where they continued their role as a Senior Principal Analyst. Steve'sfocus at ITA International was prototyping and developing innovative software applications using their expertise in Bayesian inferential and machine learning techniques.

Parallel to their professional career, Steve has also pursued their passion for photography. Since 2014, they have owned and operated Steve Sickels Photography, specializing in landscape and architectural photography, capturing the essence of place and mood.

Steve Sickels earned a Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction in Systems Engineering from George Mason University in 1994. From 1994 to 1996, they pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland. In terms of certifications, Steve obtained the PMP certification from PMI in December 2006 and the ITIL v3 Foundation certification in 2011, although the institution and exact date are unspecified.
