While working with one of Japan's largest conglomerates Mitsubishi International Corporation, Irvin Gelb founded and was head of their entertainment division in Los Angeles. He was responsible for developing and building Mitsubishi's business in film, television and stage productions. This included identifying viable investments, developing projects and negotiating new license and distribution deals.
These included several contracts with Japan's top television, cable and satellite networks including NHK and Japan Satellite Broadcasting (WOWOW channel) and American film/television producers/rights holders.
Irvin's tenure with Mitsubishi then extended to an executive producer position with their sister company, Japan Satellite Broadcasting/WOWOW, in Los Angeles. This represented their first office in America.
Some of the productions that Irvin was responsible for were investment and execution of film and television projects such as the Japanese version of the American Music Awards, the Emmys, the American Cinema Awards and the Entertainment Report (a version of "Entertainment Tonight"), amongst others. He spearheaded their investment activities in production companies and projects such as Chaplin starring Robert Downey, Jr., Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, The Quick and the Dead and Tony Award winning The Will Rogers Follies, amongst others. Licensing and distribution activities included bringing The Simpsons to Japanese television and home video for the first time, the Playboy Channel's introduction to Japanese satellite television and a partnership with Radio Vision International bringing the first live music concert events to Japanese television and theatrical release.
In addition, utilizing his previous experience discovering and developing new talent as an internationally published photographer (working with top WWE Superstars such as Dwayne Johnson, John Cena, Triple H and others), producing and access to industry professionals, Irvin now manages the careers of actors/entertainers through Irvin Gelb Management LLC (IGM). IGM is responsible for all aspects related to the entertainment careers of its clients and developing television and film projects with clients, other producers and award-winning writers/directors.
