Ethan Bourdeau serves the Standard Development team at the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) as the Sound Concept Lead. He earned a B.S.E. in Acoustical Engineering and Music with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Hartford and Hartt School of Music. Prior to joining IWBI, Ethan conducted research proving the significant difference in air and noise quality above and below The High Line park in New York City and began a career in acoustical consulting focusing on architectural and mechanical coordination, on-site verification, and WELL consultation, most notably in the design of Delos Living HQ at 860 Washington, which was awarded Living Building Challenge, WELL and LEED Platinum.
Since joining IWBI, Ethan has represented the United States as an expert in acoustics to ISO TC 43 SC1 - Noise and SC2 - Building Acoustics. He is a seasoned guest speaker and has provided advisory-level insights to the Institute of Noise Control Engineering, Acoustical Society of America, Delos Living, Well Living Lab, Quiet Mark, Quiet Parks International, and Enterprise Green Communities. Recognizing that noise is a global public health concern, Ethan is determined to craft accessible pathways for projects seeking to achieve and benefit from long-term, high-performance acoustical design.
