Jenny Rizzo-Choi has a diverse range of work experience in various fields. Starting in 2001, they worked as a Television News Reporter for WVNY ABC 22 News and later as a News Anchor for WFTX-TV Fox 4 News. In 2006, they became a Bosch Fellow at the Robert Bosch Stiftung. From 2007 to 2009, they worked as a Television News Reporter for WKBW-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness News.
In 2010, they transitioned to the nonprofit sector and became the Legal Director at Journey's End Refugee Services, Inc., where they founded and led a successful legal aid program. Jenny fundraised over $1 million in three years to expand the program, handling 1,000 cases per year and serving as the organization's public face for media interviews and community outreach.
From 2013 to 2016, Jenny worked as the National Pro Bono Promotion Counsel for Human Rights First. Jenny built and oversaw a successful national program that expanded pro bono legal representation opportunities for immigrants. Jenny also facilitated statewide immigration coalitions in Louisiana and Georgia.
In 2016, Jenny started serving on the Board of Directors for Ronald McDonald House Charities of WNY, where they co-chaired the Board Governance Committee and developed the organization's governance structure. Jenny also joined the International Institute of Buffalo as a Member of the Board of Directors, where they advised the organization and worked on mission-related goals.
In 2016, Jenny became the Executive Director of The Pro Bono Project, where they stabilized and strategically grew the organization through the implementation of a metrics-based plan. Jenny eliminated revenue-negative programs, improved operational efficiency, and secured new revenue sources.
Currently, Jenny is the Interim Executive Director of the International Institute of Buffalo, overseeing a staff of 60 employees delivering social services to refugees, immigrants, and survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. Jenny is ensuring fiscal stability, program continuity, efficient internal operations, and cultural health for the organization. Jenny also manages revenue-producing programs that provide interpretation and translation services, as well as cultural competency training for the community.
Jenny Rizzo-Choi holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2017 to 2019. Prior to this, they completed their Doctor of Law (J.D.) at the University at Buffalo School of Law between 2007 and 2010. Jenny's undergraduate education was completed at Ithaca College, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Broadcast Journalism from 1997 to 2001.
