Lígia da Fonseca has a diverse background in the aviation industry and government sector. Lígia started their career as an intern at the Directorate-General for Economic Activities in 2010. Lígia later became an Aviation and Space advisor at the Ministry for Economy from 2011 to 2014. Lígia then served as a Board Member, CFO, and CHRO at the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) from 2014 to 2016. Lígia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 2017, where they held various roles such as Manager & Senior Manager External Affairs & Sustainability, accumulating with being Country Manager for Portugal. Currently, Ligia serves as the Head of Tax Policy.

Lígia da Fonseca completed her University in European Studies at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa in 2005. Lígia received training in Air Traffic Control at NAV Portugal in 2007-2008 and obtained an ATC Aerodrome Control Visual Rating. Later, Ligia studied Airport Management and Air Transport Management. At IATA, they pursued a degree in Sustainable Management at the International Business Management Institute and completed a Strategy Execution Program at IMD in 2022. Additionally, they hold certifications in various fields, including Digital Marketing from Google in 2017.
