Larry Shapiro is Associate Director for Program Development at the Rockefeller Family Fund where he spearheaded the Funder Collaborative on Oil and Gas aimed at preventing massive new public and private investment in fossil fuel infrastructure. Prior to RFF, he directed the New York Public Interest Research Group’s (NYPIRG) environmental programs from 1988 to 99.

Larry co-founded the Environmental Integrity Project (EIP) and the Power Plant Finance Project, the predecessor organization to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis. He is a current Board member of IEEFA and served for many years as its president. He is vice president of the EIP board.

While at NYPIRG, Larry counted many successes, among them were campaigns that prevented the construction of the Brooklyn Navy Yard incinerator; the forced the shutdown of Fresh Kills, the largest landfill in the world; and persuading New York’s then-governor George Pataki to order the toughest power plant emission standards in the country.
