Étienne Ghys is a mathematician. CNRS Research Director contributed to the creation and development of the mathematics laboratory at ENS de Lyon. His scientific work focuses on geometry, topology, and dynamical systems. They owe him, for example, results allowing a better understanding of the topology of the famous Lorenz butterfly, a paradigm of chaos theory. In recent years, he has been involved in several dissemination actions, such as the making of mathematical films or the founding of an online magazine intended for the general public. This earned him the Clay Prize for Dissemination of Mathematics. He has a particular interest in education issues.
