Joanne McCaffrey has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Joanne started their career in 2009 as a Locum Pharmacist at a community pharmacy, where they worked until September 2015. During this time, they gained valuable experience in pharmaceutical settings.

In 2009, Joanne also began their PhD studies at Queen's University Belfast, focusing on gene delivery via polymeric microneedles. Their research involved investigating novel delivery strategies for the transport of nanoparticles and combining various fields such as nanotechnology, molecular biology, and drug delivery. Joanne successfully completed their PhD in September 2013.

Following their PhD, Joanne continued their academic journey at Queen's University Belfast as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Their work involved formulating, manufacturing, optimizing, and evaluating polymeric dissolvable microneedle patches encapsulating peptide-mediated nanoparticles for delivering small closed linear DNA. This research was conducted in collaboration with an industrial sponsor and spanned from October 2012 to December 2015.

In 2017, Joanne transitioned into industry and joined Instil Bio. Joanne initially held the position of Project Coordinator and GMP Process Development Scientist, where they played a key role in coordinating projects and developing GMP processes. Later, they progressed to become a Process Development Manager, responsible for managing the process development activities. In January 2021, they were promoted to the role of Senior Manager, Process Sciences, where they continued to contribute their expertise until October 2021. Finally, they assumed the position of Associate Director Process Sciences in October 2021. Their experience at Instil Bio focuses on the development and optimization of processes related to biotherapeutics.

Overall, Joanne McCaffrey's work experience encompasses pharmacy, academic research, and industry roles, demonstrating their adaptability and expertise in pharmaceutical sciences and process development.

Joanne McCaffrey pursued their education in the field of Pharmacy, starting with their undergraduate studies at Queen's University Belfast from 2004 to 2008. During this time, they completed their Bachelor of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree. Following their undergraduate studies, Joanne furthered their academic pursuits by enrolling at Queen's University Belfast once again, this time from 2009 to 2013. During these years, they successfully obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Pharmacy.
