James ("Smokey") Stanton has a diverse work experience in public policy consulting and emergency management. James ("Smokey") served as President and CEO at INSIGHT Solutions from 2003 onwards, where they focused on program development and evaluation, organization development, legislative strategies, and lobbying strategies. Prior to that, they held various senior policy roles at organizations such as the Battelle Memorial Institute, Homeland Security Institute, and the US Department of Homeland Security. James ("Smokey") also served as the Program Director at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services and Executive Director at the Maryland Health Resources Commission.
James Stanton, also known as "Smokey," began their education at Potomac State College in 1965, where they earned an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology in 1967. James ("Smokey") then attended West Virginia University from 1967 to 1969, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work. Stanton continued their education at the same university, earning a Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in Group Processes and Organization Development from 1972 to 1975. Later, in 1998, they attended George Washington University, earning a Professional Certificate in Environmental Management in 1999.
